  • Air New Zealand today cancelled all flights in and out of the capital, Wellington as the remnants of tropical cyclone Gita pummelled the country. The national carrier said all flights to the capital would be grounded as weather authorities issued warnings of severe weather and heavy rain and gusts of up to 150 kilometres per hour.

  • Union Water Resources ministry is holding a regional conference of southern states in Hyderabad today to resolve the pending inter-state water issues. Issues such as the implementation of the latest orders of the Supreme Court on sharing of Cauvery waters, interlinking of rivers like Godavari-Cauvery, notification of jurisdiction of Krishna and Godavari Water Management Boards, Polavaram Project are among issues scheduled to come up for discussion during the meeting.

  • In Bihar, at least seven members of a marriage party were killed and 23 injured today in a road accident near Kandap village under Gaurichak police station area in Patna district. Acting Senior Police Superintendent Lalan Mohan Prasad said the bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch near Kandap village when its driver lost control over his vehicle.



  • In Bangladesh, Chief Election Commissioner, CEC today said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in a graft case, is not eligible to contest the next general election in the current perspective.




  • The UK- India Joint research projects on Water Quality Research and Energy Demand Reduction in Built Environment were launched in New Delhi today. The projects were jointly launched by NITI Aayog member Dr V K Saraswat, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Ashutosh Sharma and Research Councils UK- India Director Daniel Shah.

  • In Syria, a surge in attacks by the government and its allies has killed 71 people in the rebel pocket of eastern Ghouta in the past 24 hours, said a monitoring group today. Air strikes, rocket fire and shelling on the besieged suburbs of Damascus also wounded 325 people, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.




  • US President Donald Trump is supportive of efforts to improve background checks on gun ownership, said the White House today. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president spoke to Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, about a bipartisan bill designed to strengthen the FBI database of prohibited gun buyers.




  • In Bangladesh, Chief Election Commissioner, CEC today said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in a graft case, is not eligible to contest the next general election in the current perspective. Talking to newsmen in Dhaka, CEC BD AKM Nurul Huda said, if Khaleda Zia lodges an appeal to the Supreme Court against the lower court verdict and the court permits her to contest the election, then she will be able to take part in the polls.
